Marine Applications

Full speed ahead with plate heat exchangers by GEA EcoFlex: The great material diversity, the compact dimensions and the resulting low weight make our units seaworthy. A perfect choice for uses in shipbuilding and engine construction as well as for onshore and offshore applications. On large and small freighters, oil and chemicals tankers, on cruisers, ferries and special ships – GEA EcoFlex plate heat exchangers are on board everywhere.

The Queen Mary 2 is equipped with GEA EcoFlex plate heat exchangers.

Central cooling of main and auxiliary engines and/or turbines
Lubricating oil cooling
Making circulation water available for cooling of cylinders, pistons, injection nozzles, valves and generators
Cooling of transmission, compressor and other lubricating oils
Pre-heating heavy oil and lubricating oil
Seawater pre-heating for drinking water production
Heat recovery
Heat exchange for air-conditioning of passenger and freight spaces
Diesel fuel pre-heating

Shipbuilding
GEA EcoFlex shipbuilding plate heat exchangers are optimally suited for all cooling tasks to be performed in the engine room. Since central cooling has been generally accepted in shipbuilding as the best solution both technically and economically, our units ensure that the heat generated by all machines and components is fed into the central cooler, via a fresh water circuit.

On/Off-Shore Technology
Onshore and offshore technology is gaining increasing importance for exploring raw materials. In this field, we offer our customers complete cooling units comprising not only plate heat exchangers, but also extensive accessories such as CIP pumps, valves and control systems.

Marine Engine Construction
Cooling of diesel engines is the most important application of plate heat exchangers in the marine field. This is why we have designed our units so that they can be positioned separately next to the engine or be mounted directly on the engine block in order to save space. We cooperate closely with leading engine producers and thus participate in the development of new engine generations from the earliest stage in the project. The result: complete drive systems – powerful and economical.
